Shadow Weave Scarves
Available
Handwoven Scarves
Weave Structure: Shadow Weave
Materials: 1900 YPP Rayon Chenille
September, 2011
Both scarves were woven from draft 4-40 in Marian Powell's 1000(+) Patterns In 4, 6, and 8 Harness Shadow Weaves. The scarf on the right is "tromp as writ," meaning that it is woven in exactly the same order it was threaded.  The scarf on the left is in a simpler alternate treadling.  It has more of a striped effect.

Lee's Surrender Placemats
Available
Handwoven Placemats
Weave Structure: Overshot
Materials: 100% Mercerized Cotton
June, 2011

Lee's Surrender at Appomattox is a popular overshot draft found in Marguerite Porter Davison's A Handweaver's Pattern Book.  The cotton used for these placemats was too weak to be used in the warp, so only two placemats were made.

Marguerite and Me Overshot Runner
Available
Handwoven Table Runner
Weave Structure: Overshot
Materials: 60% Cotton / 40% Linen in Natural; 100% Wool in Indigo Blue
June, 2011

This overshot design of this runner is my design based on an old pattern - Soldier's Return. The draft was originally found in Marguerite Porter Davison's A Handweaver's Source Book.  Traditional colors and materials were used, giving a rustic look and feel to the piece.

Color Overshot Runner
Available
Handwoven Table Runner
Weave Structure: Overshot
Materials: 100% Mercerized Cotton
May, 2011

This runner is from a project in the November/December 2010 edition of Handwoven. It is unique in that it uses three colors in the background.  All are closely related colors ranging from a pale gold - almost white - to an old gold.  The three colors give depth to the background not commonly found in more traditional overshot.

Sam Houston Overshot Runner
Available
Handwoven Table Runner
Weave Structure: Overshot
Materials: 60% Cotton / 40% Linen in Natural; 100% Wool in Indigo Blue
May, 2011

This runner is an alternate version of the Snowballs runner below.  It was woven at the General Sam Houston Folk Festival.  Both drafts date from the early 1800's.  I wanted an pattern that General Houston would have found familiar. The cottlin background and wool pattern gives the runner a rustic "old-timey" look.

Snowballs Overshot Runner
Private Collection
Handwoven Table Runner
Weave Structure: Overshot
Materials: 100% Unmercerized Cotton in Creme; 80% Wool / 20% Silk in Indigo Blue
April, 2011

This is my first overshot project.  The draft is the inner portion of "Snowballs" found in Marguerite Porter Davison's A Handweaver's Pattern Book. This could be said to have fueled my current passion for overshot. Overshot is a very traditional American weave structure, commonly used for coverlets before central heating became available.

Peacock Shawl
Private Collection
Handwoven Shawl
Weave Structure: 8-harness twill design / tabby borders
Materials: 100% Bamboo
March, 2011

The Peacock Shawl is a combination of an interesting weave structure with irridescent colors. The shawl is woven lengthwise in royal blue and widthwise in green which gives the final product an irridescence similar to peacock feathers. The pattern alternates blocks of elaborate twill patterning with plain-weave borders.

Tencel Scarves
Available
Handwoven Scarves
Weave Structure: Rosepath
Materials: 100% Tencel

The Tencel Scarves were designed by me. They are a combination of a traditional structure and modern materials and colors. Variegated yarns run lengthwise, giving the effect of subtle striping against the black patterns.

Viking Towels
Available
Handwoven Towels
Weave Structure: Twill
Materials: 100% Cotton

The Viking towels are based on a 10th-century Norse cloth. The twill patterning is complex, given the rather primitive looms available at that time.

Handwoven Shawl
Weave Structure: Atwater-Bronson Lace
Materials: 100% Bamboo
January, 2011

The Bamboo Shawl was woven as a thank-you gift for a friend who gave us our third floor loom, an antique Loom Craft Studios Sabina Folding Loom.  The story of its restoration can be found in my blog. The design for this shawl is from a project in Handwoven magazine.

Bluebonnet Tartan Shawl
Available
Handwoven Shawl
Weave Structure: Straight Twill
Materials: 100% Bamboo
April, 2010

The Bluebonnet Tartan Shawl was woven as a demonstration piece at the 2010 San Antonio Highland Games. The tartan was designed by Mrs. June P. McRoberts of Salado, Texas. It was adopted as the official tartan of Texas in 1989. The shawl is woven of 100% bamboo which gives it a soft, silky hand and drape.
